Those nice SimBin folk are close to releasing the third GTR title (based on the Race 07 engine I understand).

Who is getting it? I believe if you have Race 07 you can buy it as an addon cheaper.

Yes or I believe you can buy it as a stand alone game.

I haven't got Race 07 but I think I will get GTR-Evolution

Cheers Mark..

The thing that strikes me is the distinct lack of Ferrari, Lambo and Porsche in the line up. With the Lister still being in there (which hasn't been in GT racing since 2005 I think).

The official entry list for 2008 FIA GT season is: * included in GT-E
Maserati MC 12
*Corvette Z06
*Saleen S7
Lamborghini Murciélago
*Aston Martin DB9
Ferrari 550 Maranello
Ferrari F430
Porsche 997 GT3 RSR
*Gillet Vertigo
*Mosler MT900

Only 50% of the field is there, plus with the 'classes' in GT-E being 'GT Pro' 'GT Sport' and 'GT Club', while the official classes are GT1 GT2 and G2 I think SimBin have definately lost the official FIA license for this title. On the tracks only 3 of those included are in the 2008 calendar!

It's still nice to see the aging Lister Storm being included and the new DBRS9 and Audi R8 in there though.

I've heard from another racing club I used to be involved in that Race 07 was a little to 'acarde' style for their liking but rumours are abound that this expansion has resolved that. And if everything goes as per normal then a few months atfer release the modding community will have all the GTR2 cars ported over to GTR-E anyway (fingers crossed).

OK, I've done a bit of digging.

SimBin (or 10tacle that owns it and Blimey! games) has a 10 year rights deal with the FIA for GT racing, it expires in 2012. (reference)

So, why not include all the official cars, tracks and teams? Well, rumour has it that Ferrari and Porsche are increasingly worried about their cars being represented 'damaged' in computer games. This was also a rumor in Test Drive Unlimited as well. So, I can only guess that if SimBin couldn't included all car because of limitations on the damage model then it's game over for an official game of any worthy note.

It gets worse though. It seems that from an official interview SimBin have implied that none of the cars in GTR-E have proven stats. Thats to say all the actual physic's on the individual cars behaviour are completely fiction. This seems to have been the case in Race 07 also. SimBin put a positive spin on this be saying that cars have been "modelled closely to each others statistics to give a closer racing experience".

So, imho, with the exception of the actual graphical model of the cars are no representation of the real life cars as Need for Speed or Test Drive Unlimited. And if I'm going to play a completely fictious driving game then I'll head back to TDU, ok the handling was a joke but at least the model where great and you could cruise the streets!

I think the serious racing community won't be taking this title to their sites. If the above is true that I think I'll hold off purchasing this one. I'll stick with GTR2, GTL and rFactor

Hmm i think we need to do something with GTR-E. I can guarantee that 75% of the GTR2 and Rfactor community will go to GTR-E. Weather they stay there is a different matter.

I dont think we will get that many people racing in GTR2 leagues as Race 07 and GTR-E will take alot. GTL as well.

Im unsure weather to go out full blow on GTR2 or GTR-E :S

Id like to make it into a proper site instead of just a forum and i hope that GTR2 members will still race.

Anymore thoughts?

I don't find it a hard decision to make, if I don't think the game is good enough for my enjoyment I won't be buying it.

That of course doesn't mean that CnB can't support the title. But will CnB be able to afford multiple servers for every title they want to support?

Id like to keep GTR2 because as you said its a massive risk doing that and then not liking the game. Ill be buying it but I think we should keep with GTR2.
